What gives me the most hope is not a breakthrough technology or a single policy win. It is the texture of commitment I see distributed across an entire human ecosystem — investors, ecologists, scientists, technologists, forest stewards, and most importantly, farmers and the communities who have lived closest to the land for generations.

Each of them is giving their best, navigating the brutal short-term constraints of economics, politics, and survival, while holding onto a longer vision. That combination—clear-eyed realism and stubborn hope—is exactly what large-scale change has always required.

What gives me the most hope is seeing that group take shape — everywhere at once.

Real landscapes tell a story of inter-connectivity, dependence and harmony between various actors - humans, animals and plants. A truly restored landscape has to bring that balance, that equilibrium back where in each actor is just playing their part and not over-reaching into other's territory. Restoration is not about greenery, but about ecosystem as a whole.
